Human Profess Nonprofit Ltd. held its final workshop of the ECO-COMPASS project on 26 January 2024 in Szombathely. The event was attended by 32 participants, including employers of people with disabilities, mentors, trainers, environmental professionals, stakeholders from the green economy, a representative of a financial institution, climate protection professionals, entrepreneurs engaged in recycling, lawyer, a company dealing with renewable energy, a coach and a HR professional.The event attracted widespread interest, both from professionals working with people with intellectual disabilities and from professionals working in the field of environmental protection.
For participants, the event was an opportunity to learn new experiences and good practices, not only from the project but also from each other. Several participants said that the training programme represented a clear added value for them, as was the extension of the environmental cause to the active involvement of people with intellectual disabilities.In addition to gaining new knowledge, the participants also expanded their network of contacts, which they can make use of in the future. Participants discussed that it is important to address environmental protection not only at the level of national and international policy, but also that family education and micro-environment are very important in transmitting these values, also in the case of people with intellectual disabilities.The main outcome of the 2023 COP28 Global Climate Action Summit was also discussed, with the outcome document stating that fossil fuels should be phased out of energy systems and a stronger green shift should be made as soon as possible.
Speaking about the project and the results achieved, participants said that an easy-to-understand curriculum for people with intellectual disabilities is essential to promote educational equality, engagement and participation. The training material is stopgap and it is of very high quality.
